Tivoli Data Protection (TDP) SAP HANA Installation Steps and Prerequisites

Tivoli Storage Manager has added the new feature to its existing Tivoli Data Protection for ERP SAP called TDP for SAP HANA. SAP HANA is a combination of hardware and software specifically made to process massive real time data using In-Memory computing. If you are a Tivoli Storage Manager customer who uses SAP HANA appliances and wants to protect the data stored on these appliances, you can install, configure, and use IBM Tivoli Storage Manager for Enterprise Resource Planning & Data Protection for SAP HANA version 6.4 in your existing Tivoli Storage Manager backup environment. 

TDP SAP HANA Hardware Requirements
Any SAP HANA appliance or system that meets the requirements defined by the SAP HANA level in use with, and supported by, Data Protection for SAP HANA 6.4.1.

TDP SAP HANA Software Requirements
  • Operating system --- SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 for SAP applications
  • SAP HANA  support package stack SPS 05.
  • IBM Tivoli Storage Manager API V5.5 or higher.
  • IBM Tivoli Storage Manager server, any version supported by the Tivoli Storage Manager API used.

TDP SAP HANA Prerequisites
  • Make sure Tivoli Storage Manager API Version 5.5 or later is installed and configured on the system where you are going to install and configure Data Protection for SAP HANA.
  • The SAP HANA database configuration is complete on the system where you are going to install and configure Data Protection for SAP HANA.
  • The data and log backup path in the persistence section, global.ini, is configured to a target that has enough disk space for data and log backups. The backup path must reside on a GPFS file system.
  • There is an installed SAP HANA HDB Client
  • The person who installs Data Protection for SAP HANA has root access to the appliance host operating system. During the installation of Data Protection for SAP HANA, root access to the appliance host operating system is required.
  • The person who uses Data Protection for SAP HANA to complete backup operations has access to SIDadm operating system user. During backup operations, access to SIDadm operating system user is required.
  • Data Protection for SAP HANA must be installed and configured on only one of the SAP HANA hosts.
  • If performance is a concern, establish a fast connection to the Tivoli Storage Manager Server from the SAP HANA Server.
  • Data Protection for SAP HANA is not integrated with the Tivoli Storage Manager for Enterprise Resource Planning Administration Assistant. The Administration Assistant cannot be used to configure and monitor Data Protection for SAP HANA.

TDP SAP HANA Installation Steps

  • Log on to the SAP HANA host where you want to install Data Protection for SAP HANA with the root user ID through X System Window or X Terminal.
  • Go to the directory where the package is located. Typically package name is like below
             6.4.0.0­TIV­TSMERP­HANA­Linux.bin
  • Make sure the installer package has execute permissions, if not run this command
             chmod +x 6.4.0.0­TIV­TSMERP­HANA­Linux.bin
  • Enter the following command to start the installer
              ./6.4.0.0­TIV­TSMERP­HANA­Linux.bin

Note: If you are logged on to the SAP HANA host with an X Windows System or X terminal the installation will  be started in graphical mode and will guide you through the installation process. Follow the screen instructions to complete the installation. If your are using a non-graphical terminal during installation, a console mode installation will be started.

Click NEXT

Click First radio button to accept the licenses. After accepting the license agreement Data Protection for SAP HANA will check if the prerequisites are met.
Then Click INSTALL

Finally Click DONE

During the installation, the following changes are automatically completed on the system where the software is installed: 
  • An entry is created in /etc/inittab that automatically starts the ProLE daemon on the system.
  • An entry is created in /etc/services for internal communication using port tdphana.
  • Data Protection for SAP HANA will be installed under the directory /opt/tivoli/tsm/tdp_hana

TDP SAP HANA Silent Installation

  • Create a response file for the silent or unattended installation using the option “-i console” & “-r”
              ./6.4.0.0­TIV­TSMERPHANA­CD­Linux.bin ­i console ­r responsefile
  • Silent mode installation using the previously recorded responsef ile can be started using the option “-i silent” followed by the option “-f” providing the name of your response file
               ./6.4.0.0­TIV­TSMERPHANA­CD­Linux.bin ­i silent ­f responsefile

TDP SAP HANA Uninstallation

To uninstall Data Protection for SAP HANA and remove the files associated with it use the uninstallation program located in the uninstall subdirectory of the installation directory.
              /opt/tivoli/tsm/tdp_hana/uninstall/uninstaller.bin

The uninstaller will remove Data Protection for SAP HANA from your system. Services which are installed and used by Data Protection for SAP HANA will be stopped and removed. If RPM is used to uninstall Data Protection for SAP HANA the uninstallation program would remain on disk. So it is recommended to use the uninstaller.
