TSM basic interview concepts are policy management, onsite and offsite reclamation, expiration, lanfree and tape librar operations, DRM and daily administratvie tasks

drives and paths are online or offline
verifying any disk volumes are offline
RECLAMATION
Movement of data from one tape to another another tape within in the storage pool
using reclaim threshold parameters.
ONSITE RECLAMATION
onsite reclamation was done in primary storage pools only.
OFFSITE RECLAMATION
offsite reclamation was done in secondary storage pools only by moving unexpired data from onsite volumes to a new copypool volumes. Then, the old copypool volume can be used as a scratch volume.
BENIFIT FOR ONSITE RECLAMATION
By using onsite reclamation we can efficiently us the tape resources. Scratch tapes are generated as soon as data on them expires.

DRM STEPS
backup the primary stgpool to copy stg pool
backup tsmdb
move drmedia
remove volume from library
run prepare
transport drmedia to offsite
get free media from offsite back
LAN FREE
It is a Combination of tsm and SAN environment.
In LAN, data will first go to the server and then it will go to the Library.
In Lan free, data will directly go to the shared library through SAN and meta data wiil go to the database through LAN.
SERVER TO SERVER COMMUNICATION
CHANGES IN DSM.OPT FILE
INSTALL AND CONFIGURE THE STORAGE AGENT
ZONING THE DRIVES.
EXPIRATION
It is the process to delete the expired datA FROM the database.
In case of read/write errors on tapes how will you audit the volume.
Audit volume volumename fix=yes.
AUDIT LIBRARY.
Any mismatches between library and the database inventory.
